The Kingdom will underline its growing reputation as a hub for sporting excellence by hosting two major world championships back-to-back, and the first class King Hussein Ben Talal Convention Centre will be home to both. The rally, which is the fourth round of the WRC and also incorporates the Middle East Rally Championship, will be held from April 14-16, just a week after the world’s best young fencers take part in the FIE Junior and Cadet World Fencing Championships from March 29-April 6. It adds up to an action packed sporting spectacular which will showcase one of the world’s most sought after tourist destinations. “We won’t have long in between events to prepare for the rally but everything will be in place for another world-class event,” Randa Nabulsi, clerk of the course, was quoted as saying in the statement. “A lot of people will be involved with the organisation of both events and have also worked on several world championships before so our visitors can expect the very best service and standards of organisation.” Over 2,000 people are expected in Jordan for the fencing with competitors entered from more than 100 countries. The rally brings hundreds of visitors working directly on the event while television coverage spreads worldwide. Hosting events is an important part of Jordan’s sporting strategy with world championships in triathlon, snooker and cross-country all held over the last four years. This will be the third time that Jordan has hosted the FIA WRC.
