Prime Minister Marouf al-Bakhit on Saturday discussed with the Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd Jordanian-Australian ties as well as a number of regional and international issues.
Bakhit stressed the importance of the Australian role at the international level and hailed its support to Arab issues, especially the Palestinian case.He said that Israel's continued unilateral measures in the occupied Palestinian lands threaten the future of the peace process and hampers peace negotiations. During the meeting, attended by Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, the premier reviewed the government's efforts to achieve political and economic reform, stressing the government's determination to enhance laws regulating political life such as the elections, political parties, municipalities and public gatherings laws. The government, he added is also determined to fight corruption, adding this requires laws such as combating corruption and financial disclosure laws. The Australian minister hailed the distinguished relations between the two countries, highlighting opportunities available to boost cooperation in various fields.
